About our kitchen

A small team of cooks, writers and recipe testers

Backflorawash is an independent publisher of healthy eating guides written from a working kitchen in Brisbane.

Our story

Friendly food guidance, free of fads

We started in 2017 with a weekly newsletter shared between a handful of friends and family. It was nothing more than a Sunday note with three balanced dinners and one bonus pantry tip. Years later, the same calm philosophy still shapes everything we publish.

Every guide is reviewed by a qualified nutrition professional, tested in a real household kitchen and re-checked against the latest Australian Dietary Guidelines before it goes live.

  • Independent, reader-supported publication
  • Aligned with the Australian Guide to Healthy Eating
  • Reviewed by accredited practising dietitians
  • Written, tested and photographed in Brisbane

What guides us

Four ideas behind every guide

These four ideas shape the tone, the recipes and the way we approach every reader question we receive.

Kindness

Food should feel welcoming, never judgmental. We write the way we would chat with a friend across the bench.

Evidence

Our content references credible Australian and global nutrition science, with sources noted where it matters.

Seasonality

We lean into what is fresh, local and abundant so meals taste better and cost less along the way.

Realism

Every recipe is tested in a normal home kitchen with normal pans, normal time and normal patience.
